28 Life Lessons We Learnt From Chief Mrs. Elizabeth Folasade Omole

The Coordinating team of Ilesa Business School paid a courtesy visit to Chief Mrs Elizabeth Folasade Omole, wife of the foremost Ijesha industrialist – Dr, Lawrence Omole – yesterday Friday 5th of August.
She shared with us her hard-earned wisdom, humorous and painful truths, urged us to laugh, to dare, to strive, to dream, to love, and to say “Yes!” to life. Her frank thoughtful sharing of her life’s journey captivated, challenged, and inspired us all. The story of her journey together with her husband that brought to live the ‘International Brewery’ was a message of strong will, determination and courage to us. She urged us to own our truths, claim our voices, and fully embrace our lives. She spurred us to higher ground, her words nurtured our spirits, stretched our minds, and stirred our hearts. What we found most inspiring about her is the fact that – at 80 years, she is still as curious and zestful as a young woman, still nurturing dreams that many people half her age would find daunting. She is still a tireless activist striving to make the world a better place to live.
She appreciated our initiative of Ilesa Business School, and borrowed us great ideas. She exposed us to some of the values issues associated with unemployment and entrepreneurial education, pointed to some directions and provided some stimuli for the creative thinking that is yet to be done with respect to the pedagogical aspects of values in entrepreneurial education. Her thoughts affirmed our shared humanity, the human experience, and the sacredness of life. At her age, she shares an enthusiasm for the internet’s function as a tool of commerce and learning. She challenged us and advised we embrace technology with our potential, to ensure the school emerges as “an uncommon school”.
We have tried to put all we learnt from the – over 120 minutes chat with her, and we have got some powerful life guidance in these 28 simple “rules” to share with you.
  1. Never stop learning and believing.
  2. Follow your own path in life, not another.
  3. Place hard work and a solid work ethic above luck.
  4. Do what you love and never allow another person make you think otherwise.
  5. Learn to keep secrets secret.
  6. Never give up on anybody. Miracles happen every day.
  7. Be brave. Even if you are not, pretend to be. No one can tell the difference.
  8. Choose your life’s partner carefully. From this one decision will come 90 per cent of all your happiness or misery.
  9. Make it a habit to do nice things for people who will never find out.
  10. Never deprive someone of hope; it might be all that they have.
  11. Become the most positive and enthusiastic person you know.
  12. Be a good loser.
  13. Be a good winner.
  14. Beware of the person who has nothing to lose.
  15. Live your life so that your epitaph could read, No Regrets
  16. Be bold and courageous. When you look back on life, you will regret the things you did not do more than the ones you did.
  17. Remember no one makes it alone. Have a grateful heart and be quick to acknowledge those who helped you, even if they are your child’s age mates.
  18. Show respect for everyone who works for a living, regardless of how trivial their job.
  19. Live to become someone’s hero.
  20. Marry only for love.
  21. Always, always, count your blessings.
  22. Remember that 80 per cent of the success in life is based on your ability to deal with people.
  23. Don’t expect life to be fair.
  24. The world gives to the givers, and takes from the takers.
  25. Create something you wish already existed.
  26. Don’t wait to start.
  27. How you set up the game is more important than the game itself.
  28. Your work should be a performance.
We, the management and staff of Ilesa Business School, wish Chief Mrs Elizabeth Folasade Omole Happy 80th Birthday.
